If you are looking to buy a bottle of perfume that will suit you accurately then 50% of the decision should have been made before you step into the perfume shop or online store.  That is the only way you will avoid or minimize confusion with the plethora of options available.

What are the 5 Things To consider Before You purchase a Perfume?

1.) Nature Of Your Work – In choosing a bottle of perfume, carefully consider the nature of your Job. Do you work indoors or Outdoors? If indoors, you should get a perfume that will project but not overpower (Or choke your colleagues) especially if you ain’t the boss. You are better off going for perfumes that are fresh, spicy or aromatic.

If you work outdoors you tend to be exposed to the elements and you will sweat more, this means your perfume will be degraded quicker and wear out faster. You certainly should go for perfumes that are very strong and long lasting e.g woody, Oud or aquatic perfume that gets even better when your body heat or the sun warms it up

2.) Season Of The Year – Perfumes made for hot weather are commonly called ‘Summer Scent’. With Summer scents rather than the sun/heat wearing out your perfume on time, what you will experience is that the hotter the weather is the more the perfume develops into a more beautiful scent that projects better. Aquatic perfumes like Armani Acqua Di Gio Profumo and Paco Rabanne Invictus belong to this category.

Also, some perfumes are made for cold weather and work best (Last longer and projects better) in such weather. Such Perfumes include Fresh or Aromatics and woody perfumes like Chanel Bleu De Chanel, Kenneth Cole Black Bold, Bvlgari Man In Black, Dolce & Gabbana K EDP

There are also all weather perfumes like Armaf Club De Nuit Intense and Afnan Tribute Blue.

3.) Perfume Profile/Groups – Every perfume belongs to a particular Perfume group or family, depending on their composition.  Some perfume family are; Fresh, Woody, Green, Aquatic, Aromatic, Fruity- Floral, Chypre, Fougere, Oriental etc.

Based on our personality, tastes, exposure, and even our unique genetic makeup, some perfume profiles appeal to us and work well with our skin more than others. You can take note of the perfumes you have used in the past that really worked for you, research the profiles and choose perfumes within that particular profiles.

4.) Perfume Houses/Brands & Perfumers/Noses – Some perfume houses are known worldwide for releasing excellent masterpieces constantly e.g Creed, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Versace, YSL, Paco Rabanne, Carolina Herrera etc. Based on your experience, you are can stick to making your choice from some of these perfume houses.

While a perfumer or Nose is an expert on creating perfume compositions. Some Noses are such masterful creators that most perfumes they create ends up being a best seller. They are not tied to a particular perfume house. E.g one of my favorite perfumer is Alberto Morillas.

He is behind the composition of Estee Lauder Pleasures for Women, Armani Acqua Di Gio, Tommy Hilfiger Tommy, Marc Jacob Daisy, Amouage Opus VII, Bvlgari Man, , Goldea, Omnia, Carolina Herrera 212 Men, D& G Light Blue Intense, Gucci Bloom etc (The list is endless). 5.) Budget – As always ‘Cash is King’. Your budget to a large extent determines the options available to you when buying a perfume. You cannot hold #10,000 and expect to buy a Gucci or Christian Dior it will definitely be imitation. Though with the advent of clones you can probably get a perfume like Brown leather for less than #10,000 that smells like a Tom Ford Tuscan Leather of over #100,000.
